KARLOVIC, FIRST FINALIST OF AMC

Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, August 12th 2016. Dusan Lajovic wanted to play the final at Abierto Mexicano de Tenis Mifel, presented by Cinemex, but an injury in right elbow and wrist made him retire form the match during third game of second set. Ivo Karlovic will be the first finalist in history of this tournament.

“I am really happy that I am in the final but then again I know him (Dusan Lajovic) really well and I know he is a good guy. I never wanted this for him, I just wish him all the best with the recovery” Ivo stated at press conference.

Karlovic took advantage of the effectivity of his first service during the first set. HE got seven aces and cero double faults during thirty-six minutes match. During the fifth game of the first set Lajovic was uncomfortable with the pain in his right arm, he asked for medical support.

Karlovic broke twice during the first. During the second set both kept their service, but when the Croatian had break point, Dusan decided to retire form the match.

Karlovic and Dusan played against each other previously in fourth times, all of them victories for Dusan, last time they played it was at Istanbul Open.

Ivo passed bye the first round, he was third seeded of the tournament, he won his first match against Misvha Zverev and after that he defeated Marcel Granollers.

Ivo holds a record of 11, 136 aces since last year, in sixteen years as a professional tennis player.

Lajovic got to the semifinals after winning against Thiago Monteiro, Bernard Tomic and Nicolas Almagro. Karlovic had a succesfull week on Newport before coming to Los Cabos as he beat Gilles Muller in the final of that tournament. The winner of the match between Feliciano Lopez and Pablo Carreño Busta will face Ivo in the final.
